What is a Reconciliation Action Plan?
Coined by our lead body for Reconciliation (Reconciliation Australia), a Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) is a strategic framework that outlines how an organisation can work to advance reconciliation with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Our first Reconciliation Action Plan
In 2016, we committed to Reconciliation through the development of a ‘Stretch’ Reconciliation Action Plan. The plan was our first vision for an educated understanding around Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures, and contributions. It introduced cultural awareness training, celebrations of key cultural events, and lifted our shared understanding of First Nations people.
Our new Reconciliation Action Plan
After careful reflection, we went back to the drawing board and approached our new ‘Innovate’ Reconciliation Action Plan with the aim of outlining a meaningful but realistic set of goals. This plan is a refined commitment and roadmap outlining our intentions, actions, and accountability as we strive for a more just, inclusive, and harmonious society.
Approved by Reconciliation Australia in April 2025, this RAP emphasises building respectful relationships, increasing cultural awareness, and supporting our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander colleagues, participants and communities.Â
The new RAP will soon be available to read below.
