Employers can trial a young person between the ages of 17-24 in an internship for 4 to 12 weeks. This gives businesses the opportunity to see how the intern fits into your team. Young people can be a great asset to a business as they are energetic, eager to learn and also driven to gain experience.
Through an internship opportunity, not only are you gaining an extra pair of hands in your team to help with various tasks, but you are also giving a young person an opportunity to gain valuable work experience in their chosen field. All of this is at no cost to you during the internship period.
All employers who host an intern will receive an upfront payment of $1000.
If you hire the intern during or after the internship you may be eligible for a wage subsidy of up to $10,000.
Not only does it make business sense, it also makes social sense. You will be giving an opportunity for a young person to experience a new industry and learn on the job skills, while you also benefit from their work at no cost to your business.
