Ability Options WorkReady participant Mitchell, is following his dreams to become a radio presenter. From a young age, Mitchell has always been interested in radio and music.
Through WorkReady, Mitchell’s Consultant held workshops with him to explore his goals which were to improve his social and communication skills, practice his interview skills and find career opportunities in a creative industry.
Mitchell’s WorkReady Consultant, Lei said
Mitchell’s WorkReady Consultant contacted and liaised with Koori Radio Program Manager to enroll Mitchell into their training program “Presenting a Radio Program” run by 93.7FM Koori Radio and CMTO.
Through this course, Mitchell has been learning how to perform sound editing, develop techniques for presenting on air, conduct interviews, and present radio programs. He is expected to complete the course next week.
When asked about the program, Mitchell says “Being part of the radio station has been exciting. As an Indigenous person, the course made me feel welcome and has helped me on a career path I want to pursue. I have learned to overcome my fear of stage fright and feel more confident in public speaking. I want to see where this can take me.”
Throughout the training program, WorkReady has been supporting Mitchell with workshops, work experience, one-on-one meetings, and supporting him to reach his goals and prepare him for employment.
