After finishing high school, Troy wanted to find a job in retail, study a course at TAFE and develop his skills, so he became an Ability Options WorkReady participant.
WorkReady assists people by preparing them for the world of work and equipping them with relevant work-related skills and experiences in line with their interests and goals.
WorkReady organized various work experience placements that provided Troy an understanding of the retail environment. Through these placements, Troy gained valuable experience in a real-life employment setting.
Aside from his employment goals, Troy also wanted to gain his Driver’s License. Our WorkReady Consultant, Katie so he was also receiving regularly mentored him and encouraged him to keep practicing the road rules and the Driver Knowledge Test. As a result of this support, Troy booked and attended his Learner test and passed on his first attempt. He is now working on obtaining his Provisional license.
After the work experience opportunities, Troy realized that he no longer wanted to pursue a career in retail and that through social days and assisting Consultants at Ability Options, Troy decided that he would like to work in either youth work or community services.
As Troy also wished to do some further studies, His WorkReady Consultant Katie, assisted with finding a suitable and relevant course - the Certificate III in Community Services at Nirimba TAFE. Katie assisted Troy with enrolment, travel training to and from TAFE and to receive the course fee-free.
A position became available at Uniting Care for District Support Officers. Troy’s WorkReady Consultant encouraged Troy to apply for the role and assisted Troy throughout the process.
Troy progressed and was informed that he would attend an interview. WorkReady Consultant, Katie supported Troy to prepare and attend the interview. Troy was successful with his interview and was offered the job as District Support Officer based at Parramatta! He keenly took up the offer to attend a meeting to introduce himself to other staff members prior to commencing whereby Katie continued to support Troy on his employment journey!
Now at the end of Troy’s WorkReady journey he will continue to receive support from Ability Options Disability Employment Services team.
