Jakob’s parents have always been his biggest supporters, giving him independence, and encouraging him to make his own decisions since he was 16.
Jakob says “I know some of my decisions have been not so great, but my decision to join Ability Options Transition to Work program certainly was!”
Ability Options Transition to Work is a unique program assisting school leavers with disability to successfully transition from school to work or tertiary education. This 2 year program assists students to develop individual skills; provides work experience and career guidance including linking with TAFE and registered training organisations based on the goals, needs and interests of each person.
Jakob has always had an interest in helping people. The Transition to Work program has given Jakob opportunities to investigate the Health Care, Disability and Community Service sectors as possible career options. He has enjoyed the positive environment of the program and has been supported by the program with job interview skills, resume writing and communication skills such as maintaining friendships.
“Many young people I speak to are looking for something to assist them once they leave school, and I recommend this program to them. Ability Options offered exactly what I wanted and needed, it’s been a great experience” says Jakob.
Jakob has now secured a part-time job in the Disability sector and continues to build on his skills whilst completing the program.
Ability Options Transition to Work program is available to young people across greater Sydney and Nepean/Blue Mountains (programs are also available on the Central Coast and regional NSW – please get in touch for details). The program runs in the Nepean from our Penrith office at 3/30 Woodriff Street NSW 2750 - view map.
