It has been a very busy winter for the sector and our organisation. I wanted to share an update on the organisation and our focus for the next year.
Ability Options has recommitted to our strategy, called “Towards 2030”, as well as our Mission, Vision, and Values with a refreshed focus on putting people first that will ultimately enable us to better support you through your services and achieve your goals.
Another goal for Ability Options going forward is to be more future facing. We will work to grow our services carefully, limit change and create more stability for our employees to continue the great work they do supporting participants.
Our third and final goal is to simplify and stabilise as far as we can in the face of huge changes in our sector and for participants and staff.
On the topic of growing our services carefully, Ability Options was chosen as the preferred provider to take on the delivery of MidCoast Assist’s disability services on the Mid-North Coast, based in Taree, Forster, Hawks Nest and Tea Gardens.
I recently travelled north with a colleague to Forster to meet with MidCoast Assist participants, their families, staff, and their leaders. It was lovely to meet everyone there; some families had driven a long way to hear from Ability Options, so that made us feel welcome.
The discussions, visits and meetings were very productive and the transition of MidCoast Assist staff and participants is nearing completion.
In the summer, we are hosting our annual STAR Employee Awards in Coffs Harbour. These awards recognise the wonderful work our colleagues are doing to support people to achieve their aspirations and inclusion in the community. Recognising the valuable insights that our participants, their families and Support Coordinators bring, this year we introduced two new awards, inviting your nominations. I would like to thank you all for your nominations, and I look forward to updating you on the winners soon.
