Dean found it difficult to maintain long-term employment, his health condition made him shy, anxious and not overly social.
Dean would gain roles, but struggle to keep them. He found it hard to fit in.
Ability Options matched Dean to a job as a general labourer with South Western Sydney based construction company, OZ-WIDE BUILDING INSULATION owned by Joseph & Mary Bounassif.
Working with Ability Options and his new employer, Dean developed long term coping strategies to deal with his anxiety such as going for a walk, listening to music, stretching and moving when he felt agitated. His new employer assisted by Ability Options also worked with Dean’s learning style, he is a visual learner, so once Dean was shown how to complete tasks on site by his employer, he progressed much quicker.
Employers, Joseph and Mary have seen a dramatic change in Dean’s positivity which is driving his productivity and now Dean is taking on opportunities to grow his skills.
Dean now not only assists with general labouring duties on site but also helps his employer to direct and shadow new workers.
6 months on his co-workers describe him as “upbeat”, “cheeky” and “an all-round good guy”.
Dean is now working full time, a goal he had long thought was not possible and his next goal is to achieve his Dogman Ticket to further his career in the construction industry.
