Lisa was eager to find job opportunities and had spent a number of years participating in a work experience program aimed at developing her skills for the workforce.
Lisa had some mental health barriers, But she persevered with encouragement from her family. Lisa came to Ability Options through the DES program keen to find long term employment with an employer who was understanding and flexible.
Ability Options supported Lisa with pre-employment training such as resume review, providing her with work clothing and equipment as well as practising interview skills.
Ability Options Employment Liaison Consultant, Larry promoted Lisa as a candidate to many employers. When an availability was found at 1800Ezyshades, Larry contacted the company and negotiated a position for Lisa as a cleaner in the warehouse.
Larry then discussed the role further with the employer ensuring that sufficient flexibility would be provided to cater for Lisa’s needs.
In the initial few weeks of Lisa’s job, Ability Options staff supported Lisa to ensure she settled in with the Ezy Shades team really well.
“Ability Options have helped me a lot, I feel more confident and happier. They found me a great place to work” said Lisa.
During the first three months of her employment, Ability Options also offered Lisa on the job training, encouragement and quickly resolving minor issues to ensure she continued to succeed in her job.
Lisa is really enjoying her job, she’s often known for being at work extra early and her employer frequently comments on her good performance and helpful personality.
After working for over 3 months with 1800EzyShades, Lisa decided to increase her hours to almost part time employment. The employer was so happy with Lisa’s work ethic that they secured her employment even after a management restructure. She is currently in training to learn how to operate some of the warehouse machinery which is being supervised and supported by both her Ability Options Job Support Consultant and her employer.
In future, Lisa wishes to be a permanent staff member of the Ezy Shades team and looks forward to interacting with the team on a daily basis.
Lisa is now saving up for an overseas holiday and feels that she has much more financial freedom.
