Deanne and Chris Watson from Elementree Drafting provide a range of modern design, drafting and architectural presentation services to a wide range of clients in Sydney. They came across an employment article in their local newspaper the Hills Shire Times.
Titled "10 Jobs in 10 Weeks", the paper promoted Ability Options skilled and job ready candidates to local businesses. One candidate that caught their eye was Zoe.
“Zoe’s profile fitted perfectly with our company’s needs," said Chris, who was looking for a capable Office Administrator for their growing Annangrove-based business.
"We had no idea that Zoe was hearing impaired at the time of reading and didn’t care. After meeting her, we knew she was exactly the person we needed.”
In order for Zoe to perform her role, Deanne and Chris needed to install a new Captel phone system - a task they were willing to undertake to secure Zoe for their business. Ability Options coordinated with Job Access to secure Government funding for the installation of a new phone system and Captel hardware.
Zoe says that being able to make and answer calls gave her confidence and has opened up an exciting world of opportunity.
“Employing Zoe was the best decision we could have made! Zoe is now doing an accounting course organised by Ability Options through OTEN, to further enhance her skills,” said Deanne.
