Infrastructure Supply Specialist Jaybro recently hosted an immersion day for Ability Options’ Disability Employment Services participants to explore career opportunities and have an open discussion about ways to overcome employment barriers.

The day was a successful example of how businesses can actively and positively engage with disability communities, according to Ability Options’ Employer Account Manager Lea.

“The day was a great example of how businesses can actively encourage and support disability communities seeking employment opportunities,” she says.

“In my role at Ability Options, I am heavily involved with developing strong, positive relationships with inclusive businesses and creating avenues to employment for people with disability.

“It’s important that these relationships are developed to support people with disability to gain confidence seeking a future in the workforce.”

Lea’s excitement for the Jaybro Immersion Day was high. She says it was a real opportunity for the business to connect with people with disability.

She says the goal for the day was to get participants engaged and excited, and to experience the full scale of Jaybro’s operations.

“The day began with a warm welcome and introduction to Jaybro, giving participants insight into the company’s history, values, and mission, as well as a discussion about different roles,” she says.

“Participants engaged in hands-on activities to immerse themselves in the company’s operations.

“They experienced and contributed to the production process of signs, and took part in a pick-pack activity, gaining practical experience in the dispatch operations of the company.”

Feedback from participants highlighted the positive impact of the event. Many expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to explore career pathways within Jaybro and to discuss their experiences in a meaningful way.

Lea says Jaybro’s Immersion Day not only provided valuable insights and practical experiences but also marked the importance of inclusion and community engagement.

“It was a memorable and impactful day that highlighted the importance of creating inclusive and supportive environments for people with disability to succeed in the workplace,” Lea says.
