Increasing opportunities for independence and choice

Ability Options provide employment and disability services. We support people to live their life to the fullest, as we foster inclusion in the community. We operate services to support people with disabilities and those whose lives are changed as a result of accidents, unemployment and disadvantage.
Our Disability Services support people through accommodation, respite care, support coordination, community services and therapy. Our Employment Services assist job seekers, including parents, indigenous communities, school leavers and people with disability, to find work.
We pride ourselves on delivering services underpinned by our Values. Our work emphasises an individual right to opportunity for choice and self-determination, empowering people to achieve their aspirations and goals in line with our Mission.
Established in 1976, by the late Greg McIntyre OAM, Ability Options originated as a union between the Rotary Club of Guildford and the NSW Health Commission. Initially, this pairing enabled people with intellectual disability to move from large institutions into their own home. Since the inception of Ability Options, we have constantly strived for a greater impact on society and the community at large.
Initially, our services were located in the Western Sydney Region, and focused on people with intellectual disability, tailored to individual needs. Participants were provided with varied and new living options, as well as support to gain greater independence, and to achieve a sense of belonging. We champion all people to achieve their aspirations and goals, ensuring they are included in their chosen community and have access to a range of opportunities.
At present, we aim to make a difference in people’s lives, assisting them to achieve their goals and be included in the community. We currently provide a variety of services, from over 90 sites across NSW, bearing over 1200 employees. Through Employment, we have successfully placed over 3000 people in work since 2015, matching the right people to the right jobs and providing employment opportunities, training and on the job support.
Ability Options is ever expanding, providing a variety of services across NSW, including:
Whether it is providing employment opportunities, giving work experience, or assisting people to live in various scenarios, we provide meaningful experiences, and inclusion for everyone.
