Ability Options Work Readiness Youth Program is a remarkable work training course specifically designed to provide young people with the skills to successfully transition into the workplace. As Brigid Corcoran, Ability Options Youth Education and Employment Specialist says, "For many young people it’s hard to find work, they don’t really know how to get a foot in the door.”
Vai and Madison are 2 young people who have successfully completed the Work Readiness Youth Program in Holroyd. The aim is to assist young people to move from education to the workplace.
Patricia Elbayeh is manager at Café One 80, and One of a network of employers supporting the program. She says, “Vai and Madison are two of several vaiued staff we engaged through Ability Options, this program matched us with good staff and has provided great ongoing commitment and support – it can be very rewarding to give a young person a start in their career”.
Vai and Madison, pictured here, both work as café assistants at Café One 80. “I really love my job,” says Vai. “I enjoy meeting new people and learning - I’m very grateful for the opportunity.”
Madison agrees. She says, “This is my very first paid job and I’m loving it. I’ve learned so many new things including how to make coffee!”
