Meet Jodie, a dedicated and compassionate Support Worker committed to making a positive impact on members of her community.

Jodie began her career in support work driven by a deep sense of compassion and a genuine desire to support others beyond what she could at her previous customer service role.

“I couldn’t see the benefits I was bringing to people behind the phone, and I wanted to work more closely with the people I’m driven to support,” she said.

“I started out doing some voluntary work in the disability sector and I loved every minute of it. I realised if you put maximum effort into supporting people, getting to know them and their needs, and then seeing the benefit of that support to someone’s life, you can really tell you’re making a positive impact.”

Jodie sits enjoying one of participant Barry’s favourite craft activities.

Through the smiles on her participants’ faces, Jodie says she had found her true calling.

“After seeing firsthand the difference proper and compassionate support can make, I jumped ship from my old job and here I am, loving every minute of what I do.”

She believes that true fulfilment in support work comes from the heart — having the compassion to make a difference in the lives of those who need it most.

“I think you need to have the compassion to want to be in this industry,” she said.

“A lot of people have said to me, ‘I take my hat off to you,’ but that confuses me because we don’t go into this role for that kind of recognition – or any at all, really. It’s all about having the compassion to want to support people in your community. If you are a compassionate person, I think you will find support work very fulfilling.”

Jodie finds immense reward in supporting participants to live life to the fullest. Her role goes beyond traditional care — she is dedicated to understanding the unique needs and goals of each participant.

Listening, understanding, and building meaningful connections form the foundation of her approach. Jodie takes pride in assisting individuals to achieve their goals, fostering independence, and empowering them to live life on their terms.

“The thing I find the most rewarding in my role is getting to support our participants to live as you and I would want to live,” she said.

“It’s rewarding being able to listen and understand our participant’s needs, their goals, getting to know them, and then using that rapport to help them achieve their goals and live independently to the best of their ability and their knowledge.”

Jodie’s commitment to creating a supportive and inclusive community shines through in every interaction. Her dedication to the well-being and independence of her participants makes her an invaluable asset to our team.
