In 2022, we partnered with Australia Post to provide another great pathway to employment for our Disability Employment Services (DES) participants.

We recently hosted a series of engagement days as part of the partnership, giving our participants an opportunity to learn more about the employment market, career opportunities available to them, and how our partnership with Australia Post can support them to find meaningful employment.

“Our first engagement day was held at our DES office in Mount Druitt,” Shane Brooks, Ability Options’ Senior Manager for DES says.

“Participants visited and had an opportunity to speak with employers like Australia Post and Aussie Gardening and Cleaning about potential career pathways. These employers work with us and champion our mission and values to support people with disability to find valuable employment.”

Our work alongside employers like Australia Post helps drive our Mission to support people who need assistance to achieve their goals and be included in their communities. A big part of this is the ability to maintain valuable employment.

Shane says our employer engagement days often result in many participant interviews and job referrals.

“Feedback from Australia Post has been great, they’ve highlighted how wonderful it has been for them to meet our DES participants in person and pair candidates up with their role of choice,” he says.

“We’ve been working with Australia Post since 2022 and last year collaborated on a referral and feedback system that works for both organisations.”

Australia Post says they are passionate about strengthening relationships and creating inclusive environments in and out of the workplace.

Prior to working with Ability Options, Australia Post hadn’t had the opportunity to meet any job seekers from the DES program in a face-to-face setting.

“This was a true highlight for the team,” Shane says.

“We’re thrilled to say they found the engagement day experience extremely positive. Australia Post’s team engaged with people with disability they had never previously considered or met before.

“Happily, this led them to re-think elements of their recruitment process, and I hear they are now working to ensure even more people with disability can be successful in their career pursuits.”
