Through the School Leaver Employment Supports (SLES) and Finding and Keeping a Job (FAKJ) funding, school leavers, young people and people with disability can access supports to improve their skills and prepare to enter the workforce.

If you are eligible for the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) you can begin your journey. If you don’t yet have an NDIS plan, we can support you to apply or you can pay for the service yourself.

By taking part we will give you the skills, knowledge and real-world experience to confidently enter work or further training.

How can Ability Options help me?

In today’s competitive job market, it can be hard to get your foot in the door and everyone’s journey is different. That’s why we’re here to help through our WorkReady programs!

NDIS School Leaver Employment Supports (SLES)

Study, train or jump straight into work with our help.

The SLES service is focused on helping young people with disability, who are leaving school, transition smoothly into employment. If you’re a school leaver, our SLES service can help you gain the skills, knowledge and experience to succeed at work.

NDIS Finding and Keeping a Job (FAKJ)

Do you have a National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) plan? Are you interested in working? We can help you prepare for the workforce by accessing the supports and gaining the skills you need to thrive at work.

If you are between 15 to 65 years of age, and have an NDIS plan with employment goals, chances are we can help you on the road to employment. There’s no pressure to find work right away. Instead, the focus is on preparation and making sure you have the skills and supports to land a job that is right for you.

Our Approach

Who do we support?

We support people of all ages and abilities in reaching their employment goals through SLES and FAKJ.

If you feel ready or motivated to move into work, or to gain further education, our service is perfect for you! You can also be supported by us if you’re currently working but want a promotion or you would like to move jobs.

Plan and prepare

To begin, our team will meet with you to hear about your story and your goals. We want to know what your strengths and interests are, so that we can personalise our approach. Together, we will create a plan that suits you. Your tailored plan will be checked by you, and your circle of support, to make sure you are happy with it.

Your plan may include:

  • Career planning
  • Creating a resume and cover letter
  • Job seeking and interview skills
  • How to market yourself
  • Work ethics and behaviours at work
  • Career counselling and guidance
  • Strategies to build your confidence
  • Travel training, budgeting and numeracy skills
  • Building social and communication skills

Of course, this isn’t a final list but a great starting point!

Personalised approach – it’s all about you

Our service is tailored to meet your individual needs and delivered in the way you want. Our consultants start by listening to and understanding your story and goals. If you’re not sure of your goals, our team can support you to discover what these might be.

Flexible arrangements can also be made to meet you in one of our local offices, in the community, at school, or in the workplace. Our team can also provide services remotely and meet with you online if this suits you better.

When it comes to studying, we can help you by assisting with everything from enrolment through to regular study support, as well as liaison with your learning institution (TAFE, University or Registered Training Organisation).

Connect to work with ongoing support

With access to a large network of employers, you’ll get hands-on work experience with businesses that match your interests and goals. We can also support you to find and keep a job with our Disability Employment Service (DES) program.

Once you have secured a job, we will continue to work with you to ensure your experience is positive, you feel supported and that there is someone to talk things through with.

Youth support

We partner with youth organisations, developing and delivering content and programs to create an interest in employment for young people. Our highly skilled and experienced team ensures that every program is uniquely developed to meet your requirements and needs.

Insurance and getting back to work

If you are returning to work after an injury, we can work together with Workers Compensation and other insurance companies to deliver supports and services that help rebuild your confidence and skills.

NDIS plans

You may be able to access your NDIS plan to fund your services. If you don’t have an NDIS plan and would like some guidance and advice on how to apply, we can assist you. If you don’t receive an NDIS plan, you can also pay for your services – there are always options! Please give us a call on 1300 422 454 to talk through your alternatives.
