The group meets at the day program by 9am. Once everyone has arrived, the group will gather in the kitchen to begin their program. Support staff will then collect the $10 contribution from all participants. The group will then choose a recipe to cook for that day.
Selecting a recipe may seem like a simple step but finding a recipe that has a few ingredients (no more than 4 to start), step-by-step directions, a colourful picture, only one recipe on a page, and a recipe that lists the equipment and the ingredients needed, can take some time. Having the right recipe to start with is important.
Once the recipe is selected, read the recipe with the participants. This will help to bring them into focus on their task and then makes a shopping list of the ingredients required. The group will then walk to the plaza where they will be supported to learn how to shop in the supermarket and learn about the different isles and where to find specific items.

Once back at the day program support all participants to contribute to preparing the ingredients and the cooking based on their abilities. to help your learner focus on one direction at a time, also ensure everyone contributes to the cleaning process.
